Vintage 1950s Diamanté Rhinestone Brooch Art Deco Style Safety Chain.
Description.
A striking vintage diamanté brooch, believed to date from the 1950s or early 1960s.
The gently curved, geometric design is set with two prominent rectangular step-cut clear paste stones, surrounded by numerous round faceted stones in graduated sizes. The stones are individually claw-set in a silver-coloured base-metal mount and produce an attractive sparkle when they catch the light.
The two principal stones have open-backed settings, while the surrounding round stones have closed settings. The brooch is fitted with a traditional pin fastening and an additional safety chain with a separate safety pin.
Its bold symmetrical design reflects the continuing influence of Art Deco jewellery, although its construction suggests that it was produced during the mid-20th century.
No maker’s name or precious-metal mark has been found. The stones are described as diamanté or paste and the mount as silver-coloured base metal.
A very decorative vintage brooch suitable for wearing, display or addition to a costume-jewellery collection.
Condition Report
Presented in good vintage condition. All of the principal stones and surrounding round stones appear to be present.
There is some variation in the colour and brilliance of the stones, including slight yellowing or cloudiness to several stones, consistent with ageing of the stones, foil backing or settings. The silver-coloured mount has minor surface wear and discolouration from use and storage.
The pin fastening and safety chain are present.
