Antique Bronze Figure of St Eligius (Saint Eloi), Patron Saint of Blacksmiths

A finely cast late Victorian bronze figure depicting St Eligius, the patron saint of blacksmiths, metalworkers and craftsmen, shown in the act of forging at his anvil. St Eligius is also the patron saint of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers

Rich in symbolism and wonderfully evocative of the industrial and ecclesiastical traditions of the late nineteenth century, the figure captures the saint in dynamic pose, hammer raised above a glowing workpiece. The warm bronze surface has developed an attractive aged patina with areas of natural verdigris to the recesses, adding depth and authenticity.

At approximately 4½ inches high, this is an appealing cabinet bronze or desk ornament, equally suited to display in a study, library or workshop setting.

A characterful and unusual piece, combining devotional iconography with strong decorative appeal.
